Carbon Neutral Online Event

TEDxSusMafia 2.0

hosted on 13th November, 2021

Climes partnered with The Sustainability Mafia to make their online TEDx event carbon neutral. We offered attendees the choice of purchasing a decarbonised ticket to carbon neutralise their attendance.

How did we do this?

With some help from the organiser and little more from climate warrior attendees

We asked the organisers some basic questions

1. How many people are expected to sign-up for the event?
2. How many of these are expected to actually attend the event?
3. How many hours would the event last?
... and so on!

Applied reliable true-costing methods

Based on this data and certain assumptions, we calculated the total amount of carbon emissions released by this event.

Upon deeper analysis of our result, we were able to determine the carbon footprint of each individual attendee.

Empowered attendees to support the planet

In addition to the regular ticket 'Climate Enthusiast', The Sustainability Mafia also gave its attendees the choice to purchase a 'Climate Warrior (Decarbonised)' ticket.

Those who chose to purchase the Decarbonised ticket, collected 5 Climes which could then be allocated to a carbon avoidance or removal project of their choice.

The Success Story

Every 'Climate Warrior' could show other attendees that they chose
to support the planet while attending the event, using this zoom filter:
of attendees chose to carbon neutralise their attendance
5.02 tonnes
of carbon dioxide (or equivalent) was avoided/ removed from Earth's atmosphere/ oceans

These 5.02 tonnes of carbon emissions were neutralised
by these carbon projects
